Designed by ACFAS members for ACFAS members, the Chris Mahaffey Leadership Development Program equips participants with the knowledge, resources, mentoring, and networking opportunities necessary to become effective leaders and ambassadors of the profession. This program is structured into two progressive levels and plays a critical role in introducing diverse talent into the ACFAS volunteer pipeline.
Participants in the ACFAS Chris Mahaffey Leadership Development Program will:
- Develop and refine essential leadership skills to excel as a future leader and ambassador, both within ACFAS and in the broader professional community
- Gain in-depth insights into ACFAS and its volunteer initiatives, preparing for more advanced roles within the College
- Engage in a comprehensive educational experience designed to enhance professional growth and expand connections within the ACFAS peer network

The application deadline for the 2025-2026 cohort was September 30. The new cohort will be announced in early November.
Open to all ACFAS Members, Level 1 of the program is virtual, complimentary, and self-paced. This foundational level is divided into six modules that explore the history of ACFAS, featuring video content from College leaders sharing their personal leadership journeys. Modules include:

- About ACFAS
- Advancing the Specialty
- Implementing the Strategic Roadmap
- Leadership Journeys and Program Next Steps
Level 2 applicants must be ACFAS Board Certified Fellow Member who have completed Level 1. The application process is blinded and requires the submission of demographic information, a CV, a headshot, one referral, and three essay questions. This highly selective program requires a $350 registration fee for those who are accepted.
Participants in Level 2 will benefit from hands-on training in leadership styles, diversity and equity considerations, and high-performance mindset techniques. Each participant will be paired with a mentor in the profession, engage in monthly webinars throughout the year, and complete a capstone project to be presented at the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference.
