Founded in 1942, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) is dedicated to advancing the art and science of foot, ankle, and lower extremity surgery. The College is committed to supporting foot and ankle surgeons, promoting excellence in patient care, and raising the standards of education and surgical expertise in the field.

ACFAS members are Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) who have graduated from accredited four-year podiatric medical schools and completed rigorous surgical residency programs lasting up to four years, with many pursuing additional fellowship training to further refine their skills. All Fellows of the College are certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). This specialized training and board certification set foot and ankle surgeons apart as experts in their field.
