Research Requirements:
Must have published one article a year in a peer reviewed journal; must submit one poster for the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference
Program Summary/Training Goals:
- The fellowship is designed to be an extension (not a repeat) of the surgeon’s residency training.
- There will be an emphasis on: reconstruction, revision and limb preservation surgery.
- The fellow will be expected to gain experience and confidence in basic foot surgery as well as rearfoot and ankle surgery and eventually perform these procedures independently.
- The fellow will be directly involved in the examination, work up, planning, performance and post-operative care of their patients.
- They will be expected to manage, with oversight, patients on the floor, in the ED and in the office setting.
- The fellow will be required to publish at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal but will be strongly encouraged to publish more than the minimal requirement.
- The fellow will also submit a poster for the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference and will lecture at the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association (VPMA) meeting.
- The fellow will have direct interaction and communication with the faculty.
- The goal of the fellowship is to have the fellow learn surgery from multiple ABFAS Board Certified surgeons.
