American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)
Fellows of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) are board certified by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). ABFAS is the organization that administers board certification exams and recertification for foot and ankle surgeons. The Council on Podiatric Medical Education recognizes ABFAS as the only certifying body for foot & ankle surgeons. ABFAS grants certification status to candidates who successfully meet the guidelines for demonstrating competency and proficiency in the art and science of foot and ankle surgery.
- Become Board Qualified - Individuals with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree and who have completed at least a three-year CPME-approved residency program are eligible to become Board Qualified. Board Qualification is required before taking Board Certification examinations.
- Become Board Certified - Board certification in foot surgery indicates a demonstrated cognitive knowledge of foot surgery, including the diagnosis of general medical problems and surgical management of pathologic foot conditions, deformities, and/or trauma and related structures that affect the foot and ankle.
- Board certification in RRA indicates a demonstrated cognitive knowledge of foot and ankle surgery, including the diagnosis of general medical problems and surgical management of pathologic foot and ankle conditions, deformities, and/or trauma and related structures that affect the foot, ankle and leg. Board certification in Foot Surgery is a prerequisite for RRA Surgery certification.
